The federal electorate of Canning has an approximate area of 6,300 km².

It is comprised of 71 suburbs including Barragup, Bedfordale, Birchmont, Blythewood, Boddington, Bouvard, Byford, Canning Mills, Cardup, Carmel, Clifton, Coodanup, Coolup, Darling Downs, Dawesville, Dudley Park, Dwellingup, Erskine, Etmilyn, Fairbridge, Falcon, Furnissdale, Greenfields, Halls Head and Hamel plus parts of another 5 suburbs.

It is comprised of the localities of Ashendon, Banksiadale, Crossman, Jarrahdale, Keysbrook, Marradong, Mount Wells, Nanga Brook, Quindanning, Solus, Wagerup, Waroona and Wuraming plus parts of Bannister.

It is comprised of the councils of Boddington, Mandurah, Murray, Serpentine-jarrahdale and Waroona plus parts of Armadale, Gosnells and Kalamunda.

It is comprised of the state electorates of Dawesville and Mandurah plus parts of Armadale, Darling Range, Forrestfield, Kalamunda, Murray-wellington and Wagin.

It is surrounded by the federal electorates of Brand, Burt, Forrest, Fremantle, Hasluck, O'connor and Pearce.
