Griffith Region

Designed by Walter Burley Griffin, Griffith is the centre of the Murrumbidgee Irrigation Area and is surrounded by vineyards, orchards and market gardens that reflect the area’s strong Italian heritage. Wineries offer tastings of rich reds and crisp whites, and the annual festa celebrates food, wine and culture. Near town, Scenic Hill rises above the plains and shelters the Hermits Cave, carved by an Italian recluse. Locals picnic at Lake Wyangan amid fruit trees and take the walk up to the cave early in the morning before the day heats up.

Griffith Council has an approximate area of 1,600 km².

It is within the state electorate of Murray.
